A Letter from GWCC’s New President
I FELT HONORED when Scott Mayes, the current chairman of the board of directors, offered me the position of president of the Greater West Chester Chamber of Commerce (GWCC). It has been my pleasure to work for the Chamber for the last three years under the leadership of Katie Doherty, the past president. I now look forward to working with Chamber members, and to leading GWCC to the next level of excellence.
For those of you whom I haven’t had the pleasure to meet, here is a little background about me. I worked for the Disney Company on large-scale special events including Walt Disney’s 100th birthday and the 30th anniversary of Walt Disney World. I came to the Philadelphia area in 2002 to work with Lincoln Financial Group and to lead its Sports and Event Marketing Strategy. After a second stint with the Walt Disney Company, Joanne—my wife—and I had our first son, John. When an opportunity presented itself with GWCC, we decided to move back to the Chester County area. Joanne and I now have two boys—John who is three and Matthew who is just over a year. We are also looking forward to welcoming our third son, due in August.
The next several months will present some very exciting opportunities for the Chamber. We are working on a new community and member engagement program called Think, Shop, Buy Local. You will hear much more about this program in the coming weeks.
I also encourage you to become involved with at least one of GWCC’s many interesting committees. Participation is a great way to connect with other Chamber members and to learn more about and to influence the Greater West Chester community.
The Chamber exists to serve members. My door is always open for you to ask questions and provide suggestions, and to serve as a resource for you and help you get the most out of your membership. I look forward to making the Greater West Chester Chamber of Commerce the leading organization for local businesses and entrepreneurs to join in order to be successful. GWCC focuses on helping members attain new customers, address serious business challenges, and become an integral part of a thriving community.
