By Diane Nave Bednarik, Founder and Owner, dNb Promotions, LLC

WHAT GETS ATTENTION for your business and recognition of your brand? What attracts customers who Technology is all the buzz for 2012, and other products are on the rise, as well. As you plan your advertising and promotion strategies for the new year, consider these trends.

The trend in technology is toward smaller and thinner electronics. Chargers and booster pieces are popular, especially those that fit a variety of sizes of electronics, as they give a quick charge for the on-the-go client. Although they have been around for years, USB drives remain hot sellers; they can hold specific information and have custom designs to look like items as diverse as a bottle opener to a Ferrari.

Quick Response codes are giving the familiar barcodes competition. The QR code is a pattern of black and white squares and lines that can be scanned by smart phones with QR reader software. Put a QR code on your promotional item and you can direct prospects to your mobile websites, Facebook pages, eCoupons, upcoming events and more with a simple click and scan. Mobile marketing and the act of scanning may become as commonplace as texting and is especially popular among the younger demographic.

Apparel is a perennial favorite and performance-wear is all the rage. Comfort, sleek look, smooth feel and quick-drying nature are the reasons for the switch from cotton to polyester. The tri-blend fabrics—super soft, stretchy and fashionable—in t-shirts are becoming big sellers. While the products cost a little more, customers feel the value is worth the price.

Advertising specialties are less expensive per impression than nearly any other media. For a modest investment, an advertiser can reach cost per impression with shirts ($0.005) that are very similar to Syndicated Daytime TV ($0.006)

Backpacks, especially for business travel, are hot items for company presidents and students alike. Popular features include earbud ports, and iPad foldouts for airport security. TSA-compliant features are very important when offering backpacks to clients.

The Most Effective Specialty Items

The best items to promote your company are the ones your clients will use and show other people. Impressions are calculated based on the number of times items are worn or used per month and the average number of people that came in contact with the user.
