Let It Snow!
You’ll Still Stay Warm With GEOTHERMAL and Brandywine Heating & Air Conditioning
By Bill Ronayne, President of Brandywine Valley Heating and Air ConditioningFounded In 1993, Brandywine Valley Heating and Air Conditioning is well known in the Chester County area for integrity, workmanship and customer service in heating, air conditioning contracting. Well staffed with NATE (North American Technician Excellence) certified technicians and installers, we stand ready to serve our customers’ needs.
Geothermal heating and cooling systems have been the cornerstone of our business since our beginning. Furthermore, our president, Bill Ronayne, began installing geothermal systems in 1978.
Our WaterFurnace systems—designed by in-house IGSHPA (International Ground Source Heat Pump Association) certified professionals and installed by factory- trained technicians—provide an unbeatable combination of high performance and exceptional efficiency.
A geothermal or ground source system is more efficient and cost-effective than a conventional heating and cooling system. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has called it the most environmentally friendly heating and cooling system. It can be placed virtually anywhere underground.
What is Geothermal Heating & Cooling?
Regardless of your climate, the temperature throughout the year varies. For some climates, that means blazing summers and frigid winters. What many people don’t realize is that the temperature below ground stays fairly consistent, around 55 degrees, all year, regardless of climate or season. The ground is able to maintain a more consistent temperature because the Earth has great mass and absorbs 47% of the sun’s energy (heat) as it hits the Earth’s surface. WaterFurnace geothermal systems tap into this free energy with an earth loop. (The illustrations below show two types of earth loops—horizontal and vertical.) This technology is used to provide your home or office with central heating and cooling. Here’s how:
Geothermal Heating
During the heating cycle, a WaterFurnace geothermal heat pump uses the earth loop to extract heat from the ground. As the system pulls heat from the loop, it distributes it through a conventional duct system as warm air. The same heat energy can also be used for a radiant floor system or home hot water heating.
Geothermal Cooling
In the cooling mode, the process is reversed, sending cool, conditioned air throughout your home. Instead of extracting heat from the ground, heat is taken from the air in your home. Heat is moved back into the earth loop or preheats the water in your hot water tank.
