When I was 25 years old, I started having pain in multiple parts of my body. The pain dramatically increased as I became older. In my early 30’s, I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia and was told there was no cure. The pain was unsuccessfully managed with medication for years.

At 66, the severe pain became worse with spinal arthritis. I had trouble going up and down stairs. I couldn’t sit with my knees bent for more than an hour; meetings at work were unbearable.

One day I had an asthma attack. I was taken to the hospital, where I learned I had internal bleeding caused by the pain medication. The doctors took me off the medication immediately; then all I felt was pain. I was looking for anything that could help me feel better.

I heard from a friend that there was a doctor who might be able to help me with arthritis and fibromyalgia, but I was skeptical. I had been referred to Dr. Stephen Conicello at Upper Cervical Chiropractic Neurology Centers. He showed me my x-rays. I saw what looked like “angels’ wings”—bony spurs along both sides of my spine. Dr. Conicello said that I had a misalignment in my upper cervical spine (the upper two bones in the neck) that was causing damage to my entire spine. He explained that once the pressure was taken off the upper cervical spine, over time all of my vertebrae would go back to where they were supposed to be and my body could, hopefully, heal. He made no promises and said it was a severe case, but I felt hope for the first time in more than 30 years.

Now I have been under the care of Dr. Conicello for the past six months. I knew Upper Cervical treatment was working because I have not had pain for the past couple of weeks. But the proof was in x-rays taken last week. The “wings”—spurs—are gone! Now I can exercise, walk up the stairs and do what I want at a normal pace again with no pain. I feel younger than I’ve felt in a long time.
