Westtown School proudly hosts the 2011 Westtown Art Show on April 15-16, featuring the works of more than
70 professional artists (oil, watercolor, printmaking, jewelry, You’re Invited ceramics, glass, etc), a silent auction, and the special art installation mentioned below. The Show is open to the public. Meet the artists and enjoy complimentary refreshments on Friday, April 15; continue viewing (and shopping) on Saturday, April 16.

About Westtown School

Westtown School is a Quaker, co-educational day and boarding school for grades pre-K to 12. Westtown offers excellent academics, encourages students of all ages to act creatively and with integrity on the courage of their convictions, and affords graduates the skills they need as leaders in today’s world: collaboration, communication, information literacy and a global perspective.

Birth & Growth of an Art Show

In 2009, artist & Westtown parent Sarah Yeoman suggested and developed an art show to highlight the talents of artists both within and outside the school community while raising money for the school. In March 2010, we held the first Westtown Art Show
with 31 artists. Last Fall, artist and art show coordinator extraordinaire Lele Galer volunteered to chair the 2011 Westtown Art Show.

Featured Artists

Our first “featured artists” are Sarah Yeoman, a watercolorist, and John Colburn, a potter. Both are Westtown parents actively involved with the school. Sarah, as noted, developed the first show, and John is an active member of the school’s Board of Trustees.

A Special Art Installation

We are thrilled to have Michael Petrie of Michael Petrie’s HANDMADE GARDENS install a very special element this year: two large paintings that are interpretations of Monet’s late, large-format Water Lilies series. Petrie’s canvases come to us straight from the 2011 Philadelphia International Flower Show, where they were a part of the Petrie-designed central feature exhibit La Toile de Jardin (“The Garden Canvas”). Petrie, a well-known creator of many “Best-in-Show” Flower Show exhibits over the past 20 years, owns HANDMADE GARDENS, a landscape design company, plant nursery, and garden shop. See www.handmadegardens.net/handmade.
