There are tons of questions we would like to ask our stylists. After all, the beauty industry is a fascinating one. They have the ability to transform our looks from conservative to dramatic, from subdued to vibrant or from classic to modern.  Three stylist and one makeup artist from Avanté Salon and Spa have chosen to share with us some of their insight and inspiration.

Emma Adams is an upcoming stylist who has been working in the industry for 3 years. She is an outgoing and creative new comer.

Why did you choose the beauty industry?

I always loved playing with my sisters hair and changing my own.  It is such a versatile and growing business I knew I could always make it work no matter what stage of life I am in.

What motivates you?

When I do a completely new look on a client and they love it!  There is nothing better then a satisfied client and it motivates me to want to continue to do better.

If there was one celebrity you would love style who would it be and why?

Julia Roberts, she has beautiful, natural wavy texture to her hair and is a genuine and beautiful person.

What suggestions do you have for stylists just starting out?

Always have a learning attitude and clear communication with your client.

Kim Powell is a growing stylist who has been working at Avanté for 5 years. She is very attentive to her clients and has a very pleasant personality which brings joy to the salon.

Why did you choose the beauty industry?

This industry has great flexibility, creativity and something different to look forward to everyday.

What motivates you?

My clients!  I love to see my clients leave happy!

If there was one celebrity you would love style who would it be and why?

I would like to style Oprah, because she does so much good and helps so many unfortunate people in the world.  Plus she has lots of wigs!!

What suggestions do you have for stylists just starting out?

My suggestion would be to rebook all of your clients!

Doug Rabenold is an experienced stylist who has been in the beauty industry for 18 years.  He has been with Avanté for the last 15 and has been a huge asset.

Why did you choose the beauty industry?

This industry works for my interests; I love fashion, products, and people in a one on one setting.

What motivates you?

Fashion! I love seeing the latest trends and then transforming them to work for me and my clients!

If there was one celebrity you would love style who would it be and why?

Mila Jovovich, she is so unique and is always changing her look.

What suggestions do you have for stylists just starting out?

Remember that your book is your and yours alone.  It is your responsibility to educate yourself, grow your business and maintain it, not the salons. Only you can make or break it!

Lauren Crammer is an upcoming makeup artist/esthetician.  She has been specializing in makeup application for the last two years and recently, she has been developing her skills as an esthetician.

Why did you choose the beauty industry?

When I started at Avanté I had every intention of being a hair stylist, but when the opportunity to become a makeup artist/esthetician I jumped on it!

What motivates you?

Mom and her best friend, Bev motivates me.  Although my mom has been passed away 4 years ago, she is what keeps me working hard.  Without Bev, I would not be where I am today.

If there was one celebrity you would love style who would it be and why?

Although he is a director I would love to work with George A. Ramero.  My ultimate goal is to become a special effects make up artist.  I have always wanted to work on one of his sets.

What suggestions do you have for stylists just starting out?

Remember that your book is your and yours alone.  It is your responsibility to educate yourself, grow your business and maintain it, not the salons. Only you can make or break it!

Seeing as how I am just starting out myself, I can’t give that much advice.  However, I can say never give up on your dreams and practice, practice, practice.
